OLYMPIC ‘GOING FOR GOLD’
The Olympics are rapidly approaching and I hope that your club is geared up to celebrate them.  With people coming from all over the country we are most fortunate that we are so close to the events.
As you will have seen from the news bulletins, the torch is already on its way around the country and will be in London from 21st to 27th July, 2012. Make sure that you have your team dressed in Rotary clothing and with your welcoming banners, ready to greet it. To give us a group identity we are asking individuals and hopefully clubs to purchase a Polo Shirt that has been designed specifically for the Olympics. It is in Rotary colours with a special logo. They are being supplied by a fellow Rotarian, Frank Power of 1st Direct.  For individual orders the cost is £14.00 each. You have to order direct from Frank, contact details are sales@1ststopdirect.com (WWW.1ststopdirect.com), Tel: 01277 811670, Fax: 01277 811185, Mobile: 24 hr 077 1041 4837. In addition LOCOG has produced a celebration pack, only available to approved voluntary and community groups. It contains 50 hand flags, two 15m bunting strings, a flag and flagpole kit and a banner.  A pack costs £99 incl VAT (plus delivery). It’s also ideal for Rotary clubs to buy in bulk and save because if you order 9 packs, you’ll get a tenth absolutely free. Packs of 100 hand flags are also available for purchase separately for £72. But hurry, products are available for a limited time only. For further details or to buy now go to www.gameslookbook.com/community

We are still looking for volunteers to look after York Gate during the games. Why not put together a team from your club to do this for a day or half day and at the same time advertise your club's activities. You can find details of availability on the District website where you can also register your willingness to undertake this role. Further details can be obtained from PDG John Lee, e-mail: penponds@ntlworld.com

Finally, the response to the River Thames boat trip to celebrate the games, which is taking place on the evening of 26th July, 2012, has been overwhelming, such that a bigger boat is having to be arranged. It will now go from Tower Pier. If you hurry, you may be able to get a place but it is not guaranteed. Contact Eve Conway, eveconway@hotmail.co.uk or Robert Ghazi, parsye@aol.com
Enjoy the Olympics!
Clive Amos, Chairman, District 1130 Olympics Committee
